There are some misconceptions about leveling Runescape combat level. Most players think that they should work on the highest possible level of monsters in order to earn knowledge points. They are totally wrong. Actually, experience point is based on the amount of damage you do. The amount of damage is dependent upon the number of hit points the monster has. As a rule it is natural to say that it is safer to fight the monsters with the higher combat level. But this is wrong. I will list you two of the reasons.
First reason is that higher combat in NPCs does not mean higher hit points. Usually, it means higher defense or chance to do damage to you. So you are not doing more damage but you are taking more. That means you need more food or prayer potions. That will make you level up your combat level slower.
Second, tough monsters take several years to kill even if they have more hit points. It may take you a lot of time to do a damage and kill them. It is not worth to spend your time on it.
When I level up my combat skills I did a great deal of slayer tasks to keep myself motivated. I have done a different thing from other players. I turned in the tasks that will take long to accomplish. That increased the speed of level up mu combat skills.
